Praise... encouraging words... and intangible rewards... hugs, time with your child, etc. is an effective method of encouraging good behavior.
  • Simply giving your child spontaneous expressions of appreciation or acknowledgement when she is not misbehaving will act as a reinforcer for good behavior.
  • It is very common for children who are otherwise ignored by their parents to turn to misbehavior as a way of seeking attention.
  • On the other hand, you may wait until your child calms down and speaks politely, then reward the more polite behavior with the attention.
  • It is essential to also praise your child for every good attempt she makes, regardless if she actually succeeded or not.
  • If she is praised for trying hard, she will learn a valuable lesson for life, that effort and perseverance are more important than instant success.
  • Over praising can have a negative effect on your child, setting her up for dishonest and unrealistic expectations.
  • The right amount of praise at the right time can restore your child's well-being, however an overdose of praise is very unhealthy
  • Your child deserves to get an honest feedback from you. We all want our children to have genuinely earned their accomplishments.
Smart Parenting Tip #2: Positive Reinforcement
Positive reinforcement is a good idea in your discipline approach. 
  • Many children prefer positive approach than the negative reinforcements but it actually depends on you as to how you will implement discipline to your child.
  • Your child can develop her values and morals through the discipline that has been introduced to her by you.
  • Children love to repeat the same behavior if they are being appreciated by someone especially their mothers.
  • By doing this, bad habits will lessen and can be totally eradicated through time if proper discipline will be imposed continuously.
  • Rewards are very important to your child. She will feel very happy and satisfied with her action if she's being rewarded for that.
  • It promotes positive behavior within her. As a parent, never ignore every good deed that your child can accomplish.
  • It might be a simple reward to you but for her, it is already a big deal to receive something from you due to her effort in doing good things.
  • If you can notice that your child constantly does well through your positive reinforcements, continue this approach until such time that she will become more optimistic and confident with her own actions.
