Child Drawing Analysis

Child Drawing Analysis

Did you know? The best way to know your child’s emotional state is to go through their drawings? Most children love to draw and paint, but it’s because they can reflect their emotions and minds to take us to their world and inner thinking. It’s the same way as adult’s express anger, frustration, sadness etc…

For this reason, the best way to interact with your child is by discussing his/her drawing, but be careful it’s not good to over think your child’s drawing, but rather share the experience of talking about it with them, this would enhance the bond between you.

Examples of these drawing would be:

1)   A Bunch of Balloons:

An analysis by Dr. Martin T. Stein states that such drawings show that a child has a strong bond with their mother’. Although it is a good thing, but learning how to separate the child from their mother would build that independent development every child should have.

2) The Stick-Figure Family

A 5-year old girl drew this drawing, she drew her mother on the far left, followed by the family dog, her father, herself, and her 8-year-old brother. She drew herself larger than what she is, which means she has good confidence in herself. In addition, she positioned herself between her father and brother in her age children start to identify gender. In that age girls most of the time get physically and emotionally closer to their father (on the other hand boys this age gets closer to their mother).

3)   A Hole in The Ground:

This drawing was by a 7-year- old girl who went with her parents to witness her grandfather’s funeral. The positive thing about this drawing is the bond of the family and how in such a sad moment they stood beside each other, also the ability of this girl to draw emotions of sadness and grief.
